Peek & Cloppenborg

Department Store | Berlin | Germany

Type: office/commercial buildings
Client: Peek & Cloppenburg, Düsseldorf
Planning: 1992 - 1993      Completion: 1993

The department store, situated at the Tauentzien in immediate vicinity to KdW and Gedächtniskirche (Memorial Church), refers to a Berlin tradition of department store buildings. Up to the 4th floor a closed and spherically curved stone facade surrounds a spacious atrium, covered with a glass dome. This design concept was contradictory to the building dogma of that time and therefore was not realized.
